Baklava is the father of strudel. A Turkish, Greek and Middle Eastern dessert that originated before the 16th century. Baklava consists of 30 or more sheets of filo pastry, which are treated with a lot of butter and topped with finely chopped pistachios, walnuts and/or almonds. After baking, a syrup with honey, lemon juice (sometimes sprinkled with cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, etc.) is poured over the dough and allowed to soak in.
